Now let me preface this with the fact that I am not a regular runner. I actually for a very long time despised running. To me, it was boring, it hurt and just was downright unenjoyable. Every strike of the pavement reminded me that I was one step further from my house and that much farther I had to run back. Despite my distain for the activity, I knew I needed to add in a different cardio workout to my training plan. I needed to figure out how to make running a sustainable activity for me. I set out to the Charlotte Running Company, a fantastic local store in Charlotte and began the testing process. I was blown away by the assistance and patience I received as I was allowed to try on pair after pair of shoes while the salesman dumbed down the specs for this less than knowledgably faux runner. Their customer service is above and beyond! I was very impressed with their selection and vast difference in choices for all type of people! Even the avid walker.
Finally, I chose the Brooks Levitate and here is my super not technical, non-runner reasons why.
1. I felt like I was running on clouds. Yes, they felt weightless! That heaviness in my legs was gone! Every time I stepped, the shoe reacted and allowed my leg to bounce back in preparation for my next stride instead of feeling like my foot sunk into the pavement abys. The performance of this shoe was unlike any other running shoe I have owned, and I have owned a lot! With around 75 miles on the shoe currently; they still feel like the first day I put them on!
2. The shoe was lightweight, minimal, yet offered the support in all the areas I liked. With its construction of an ankle/heel support, I felt like my heel was locked into place and didn’t slip around. I didn’t even need to use the heel lock lacing technique to get this feeling!
3. I loved the material. Unlike my other pair of running shoes, these were made of stretchy material on the top allowing for my feet to have the ability to grow should swelling occur. It also didn’t feel restraining. I liked that. The shoe laces are also made of stretchy material which after a few longerish runs didn’t feel like I suddenly had tied my shoes too tight or was hitting that annoying trigger point on the top of my foot.
4. They were pretty. I know, I know, not a reason to buy a shoe, but hey I am a girl :) I loved the colors and the way they looked aesthetically. Great looking pair of shoes!
Overall I have been very happy with these shoes, and even happier with my experience at the Charlotte Running Company. They will definitely be my store of choice for anything running now!
